Accompanied by Mr. Chen Zhenlin, Deputy Administrator of CMA, Mr. Csaba Kőrösi and the delegation visited the National Meteorological Centre (NMC), the National Climate Centre (NCC), the National Satellite Meteorological Centre (NSMC), and the National Meteorological Information Centre (NMIC). Through the visit, he has gained a closer understanding of hydrometeorological operation, climate prediction and response to climate change, global services of FENGYUN meteorological satellites, and global meteorological information sharing of China. He has also exchanged ideas and discussed with Chinese staff. Mr. Zhang Zuqiang, Deputy Administrator of CMA participated in the visit.

Impressed by the tailored services provided by CMA for sustainable development, Mr. Csaba Kőrösi said that CMA has scored fruitful results in the field of response and adaptation to climate change, in particular, the work of climate risk management, early warning, and meteorological service for water management which bears strong demonstration. He emphasized that we should pool international strength to implement Paris Agreement. And during this process, sustainable transformation is of paramount importance, hoping that CMA will continue to actively participate in multilateral cooperation under the UN framework, and make a greater contribution to global sustainable development.

Mr. Chen Zhenlin briefed Mr. Csaba Kőrösi on the basic information of CMA. He expressed that as a key partner and contributor of WMO, CMA will fulfill the solemn commitment by Chinese President Xi Jinping of serving the international community with FY meteorological satellites and World Meteorological Centre Beijing, and unwaveringly support and engage in international multilateral cooperation. CMA will actively share its experience in disaster prevention and mitigation, climate risk management, and utilization of climate resources. CMA will also collaborate with WMO to actively implement the Early Warnings for all initiative proposed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and support meteorological capacity building in developing countries, to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Effective management of climate risks is an important means to tackle climate change. CMA has continuously reinforced capacity building in monitoring and early warning of extreme weather and climate events, and deepened cooperation with 31 inter-ministerial liaison departments on meteorological disaster early warning services. Meteorological departments have provided tailored services for major projects in fields like grain production, water resources development, transportation logistics, new energy development, management of large cities, and the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. A meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation mechanism with Chinese characteristics has been formulated. So far, the rainstorm early warning accuracy has reached 91 percent. The public coverage rate of weather early warning information has reached 97.67 percent, and the accuracy rate of forecast for grain yield per unit area and total yield in 2022 has reached 99.9 percent, hitting a new high among the past five years.

Globally, CMA actively fulfills its international obligations. It has undertaken 26 specialized global or regional centres, including World Meteorological Centre Beijing (WMC-BJ). FY meteorological satellites have provided monitoring and emergency response services to 126 countries and territories. CMACast has covered Asia Pacific, and most parts of  Africa. China has trained more than 11,000 staff from developing countries, spearheaded Global Multi-Hazard Alert System in Asia (GMAS-A) of WMO, and provided equipment and technical aid to countries in Asia and Africa along the Belt and Road.
